So after my grand 5-hour university graduation ceremony on Saturday I decided to go see Saw V…what a mistake. Saw V was the worst of the series and definitely the worst movie I saw for the year. The tagline of the movie is “You won’t believe how it ends”…I won’t dispute this, because seriously, you won’t believe how it ends……ITS QUITE LAME. You know that super-surprising “holy shit!” twist they put in at the end of Saw I, II, III and IV? Well Saw V’s twist is as surprising as George W. Bush’s exclusion from the Mensa spciety.  Without spoilers, the ending is not a twist at all, it is simply chronological, natural, expected, not surprising, I don’t know how to express it more. The movie itself was boring, and a total waste because we all thought we were to be treated with something that would make sense of it all at the end but no chance of that.

THE ONLY GOOD THING about this movie is Carlo Rota made an appearance. Carlo played the one and only “Mick Schotoppel” in La Femme Nikita back in the day and was one of my favorite characters in the series. This means only he and Nikita herself (Peta Wilson) to this day have gotten roles in big movies. Wilson starred in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Superman Returns. Too bad Carlo only lasted a few minutes though, that wasn’t much of a spoiler as we all know how Saw kills off almost everyone by the end of the movie.

However, I actually felt ROBBED of my money at the end of this movie. In conclusion, DO NOT GO SEE THIS SHIT. Its amazing that its the number 2 highest grossing movie right now, a lot of people have wasted their money. ou’re better off dancing to High School Musical 3….because the ending of that movie is actually more of a mystery than Saw V.

Bill Maher is a Bigotist Asshole

October 27, 2008 at 5:10 am (Celebrities, Entertainment, Life, Rants) (, , , , , , , )

Bill Maher is a smart, very funny comedian. I’m been a fan of his show “Real Time with Bill Maher” since 2003 and I watched all of his standups…but he’ a bigotist asshole, and its really starting to get to me. His movie Religulous, seeks to poke fun at not just Christianity, but religion as a whole. I haven’t had the opportunity of seeing it yet, but I can predict what it will be full of, seeing that he has always had this attitude of being condescending to all who aren’t atheist like him. It seems as if he aims to throw small punches at religion in all of his shows, interviews and appearances : mocking people who believe in angels, calling praying “talking to an imaginary friend”, generalizing all religious people as stupid because he came across a few religious people that apparently are, etc.

Why does he do this? I am a Christian, I went to church today but I am not a frequent Church-goer, nor a 100% believer in 100% complete adherance to every literal word the Bible says, nor the great defender of the Christian faith, as I know there are some things about it, as with all things in life, that should be taken with a few pinchs of salt, so I’m a lot liberal than most Christians, but even I have a problem with Maher.

It seems as if he really does have deep psychological issues that makes him so adamant against religion. If you’re an atheist, and misguided as you are, then fine, believe that, keep it to yourself and stop mocking people’s beliefs. Stop the unfair generalizations of an entire following of people just because you met a few ignorant of them who follow the words of the Bible without question and can’t answer your bullshit pseudo-intellectual questions….just because you can. Don’t you realize whenever you make jokes poking fun at religion 90% of the Friday nights that you do, you don’t get that much laughs? Nobody thinks its that funny, not even Liberals and Libertarians. Stop trying to be George Carlin. Only he can pull it off and be funny..and even with him it was mildy unnerving.

He goes so far as to say that religion isn’t just stupid but its also bad. Only thing bad is his shitty-ass, deceptive movie :

“I wonder whether we’ll hear about other examples of deceptive editing besides this one and the misleading John Adams quote I mentioned earlier. Religulous is a comedy based on making believers look foolish. Yet while he attacks the intellectual dishonesty of religion, his movie seems to be chock full of it.”

“He declared the God of the Old Testament “barbaric” for ordering the Israelites to kill every man, woman, and child during their conquest of Palestine. Now, you and I know there are biblically sound, intellectually satisfying answers to these questions. But people like Bill Maher aren’t really looking for answers, they’re looking for opportunities to ridicule God’s Word and everyone who believes in it. He had no interest in listening to anything I had to say.

(See full details of the total failure and deception of Maher and his movie at

But wow. Religion is bad? He obviously has had the joy and pleasure of living a very trouble-free, non-crisis afflicted, happy go lucky little stupid life. Evidently, because he gets paid a lot just to tell stupid jokes and aggravate people. Try telling patients at a hosptial with only months to live with a Bible, Koran, or whatever holy book of their religion next to them that religion is stupid. Religion gives people hope, inspiration, comfort, strength and solace, common in all denominations of theist faith and others. Why go so out of your way to mock it?

What a sad fool. Its so stupid and pathetic to me to see him consistently depict to the world that he is an ignorant asshole that is more guilty of what he accuses religious people of, being irrational and stupid.

“Some audience members at early screenings of “Religulous” have protested that the film focuses on irrational believers. “That’s not true,” Maher said. “Everybody we talked to was reasonable. They’re normally functioning people. “But if you’re religious, it means you believe in some crazy stuff. And at that point you don’t look reasonable. People think we sought out crazy people and ignored this mythical rational religious person.”

R.E.O Speedwagon Concert in Port-of-Spain Review

October 13, 2008 at 7:44 am (Entertainment, Music) (, , )

The show started off with Vertical Horizon, who were actually alright. They sang their hits “You’re a God” and “Everything You Want” and a few other decent songs. Lead singer Matt Scannell even said he had a roti at Hott Shoppe in St. James earlier.

Rick Springfield put on a very energetic, engaging performance. He performed “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, “Jessie’s Girl”, “Human Touch” and his new song for the year “What’s Victoria’s Secret”. He was pulled off the stage about 3 times by fans until they brought police officers and the big buff guy that does the commercials for Green Sands beer as bodyguard. He sang “Don’t Talk to Strangers” while walking through the VIP crowd letting patrons sing the chorus. He walked far into the crowd, almost to my section (Special Reserved) while performing “Human Touch”, seemingly wanting to touch as many fans as possible. Even if you don’t like his music, his performance was definitely entertaining.

R.E.O Speedwagon were boring. After performing “Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore” and “Keep on Loving You” much to everyone’s delight….they just churned out a bunch of generic shit that noone really seemed to remember and all of them sounded the same. Lead singer for the band Kevin Cronin even admitted that HE HIMSELF forgot the lyrics for one of these songs but performed it because of a “letter from a fan”.

All in all it was alright. Still a waste of time in my opinion because the promoters still insist of bringing these 80’s groups that had a few hits before I was born. Sure they were ok, but I would much rather attend a more mainstream contemporary set of bands or band e.g. Linkin Park, Incubus, Creed, Hoobastank, etc.

Crank 2 : High Voltage

October 9, 2008 at 5:04 am (Celebrities, Entertainment, Funny, Misc) (, )

Jason Statham’s Crank 2 is due out either late this year or April 2009.

I have no problem with this.

Statham is the biggest thing to hit the action genre since Van Damme.

Crank 1 was a great movie.

It must suck falling out of a helicopter at 10,000+ feet, calling your girlfriend and getting her frigging answering machine

It must suck falling out of a helicopter at 10,000+ feet, calling your girlfriend and getting her frigging answering machine

No, that isn’t some crazy YouTube amateur shit, that was the official end of the movie. Statham’s character Chev Chelios jumps out of a helicopter, struggles with a guy, talks to him, breaks his neck, takes his cellphone out, listens to a message, leaves a voicemail, puts away the phone, then freefalls for an additional 10 seconds or so, lands untop of a car with so much force the car’s hood gets crushed in, Chev ricochets in the air, and lands on the STREET. That’s like a 3-4 mile drop from the SKY. That will most definitely kill anyone. There are cases where people have survived falls such as Vesna Vulovic who amazingly fell out of a plane after it exploded and survived after a 33, 3333 feet fall!

But come on, this man landed on a very solid object, twice i.e CAR and STREET. Has Hollywood totally thrown out the concept of realism and logic to make money now? Noone said don’t make a sequel, but damn, you didn’t have to use the guy that died in the one before it!

Clay Aiken is Gay

September 24, 2008 at 1:36 pm (Celebrities, Entertainment, Funny, Misc, Stupidity) (, )

Clay is gay…According to a People Magazine article, Aiken said “Yes, I’m Gay” and “I cannot raise a child to lie or hide things”. Wow, is this even worth reporting? This is the biggest “surprise” since Lance Bass came out of the closet. You can’t “come out of the closet” if its doors are see-thru AIken, you should have just said so in the first place.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Sucks

April 5, 2008 at 8:19 am (Anime, Entertainment, Misc, Movies) (, , , , , , , )

“Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Shin Seiki Evangerion?), commonly referred to as NGE, Eva, or Evangelion, is a commercially and critically successful, influential and popular Japanese anime that began in October 1995;”

“A titanic and compelling show. The most controversial series ever made. The greatest anime of all time. These are just some of the things you will hear if you mention Evangelion”

” Mere words cannot do Eva justice. Neon Genesis Evangelion is just incredible. I am in asolute awe of its genius and depth. I loved the combination of religion, philosophy, and science fiction. This series stands as the best anime ever.”

“Evangelion is a genius work of storytelling. The way it can make 26 episodes make one great story with the most definite solution to a problem (mankind) I have seen yet, makes me feel really happy inside.”

“If u had to pick among all of the Japanese anime ever created… Neon Genesis Evangelion has to be one of, if not THE most influential animes ever created. “

These are just some of the things people are saying about NGE on the net. Its basically a global worship of it. And I can go on until tomorrow finding quotes.

It baffles me though. Why??? Well, I think I qualify as an almost veteran-level Otaku now.  Just some of what I’ve seen and continue to follow include :

  • Sailor Moon
  • Dragonball/Z/GT
  • Inuyasha
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Jigoku Shoujo
  • Death Note
  • Naruto/Shipuuden
  • Fooly Cooly
  • Rurouni Kenshin
  • Bleach
  • Yu Yu Hakusho
  • Elfen Lied
  • Tokyo Majin
  • Gundam Wing
  • G Gundam and..over the Carnival holidays..Neon Genesis Evangelion

So I’m no n00b. However, I’m yet to see what’s the big deal about NGE. It isn’t deserving of most of the worship of anime fans as its been subjected to, and for crying out loud, stop saying its the work of a genius.

I really did try to like NGE, after having read some of the above comments about it. But I tried and failed, as not only does NGE not live up to its hype, but I think it SUCKED, to the point of, after watching all 26 episodes and the movies, being angry for wasting approximately 1000 minutes of my time.

NGE is a mishmash of religious symbols with inexplicable, very loose or even non-existent connections to the actual storyline, bundled together with a cast of some sick, seemingly sociopathic and weird characters, plus a large dose of confusing science fiction. And I’m not just deducing all this based on the fact that after much thought, research and second viewings of episodes that I still don’t understand what the fuck most of what was injected into the story means as it was said :

Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan we thought it would be mysterious. None of the staff who worked on Eva are Christians. There is no actual Christian meaning to the show, we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool.

Kazuya Tsurumaki, Assistant Director of Neon Genesis Evangelion

“Evangelion is like a puzzle, you know. Any person can see it and give his/her own answer. In other words, we’re offering viewers to think by themselves, so that each person can imagine his/her own world. We will never offer the answers, even in the theatrical version. As for any Evangelion viewers, they may expect us to provide the ‘all-about Eva’ manuals, but there is no such thing. Don’t expect to get answers by someone. Don’t expect to be catered to all the time. We all have to find our own answers.”
Hideaki Anno, Director of Neon Genesis Evangelion

Not that I needed to find quotes from the people that actually thought up NGE to support my opinion, but wow. “Find our own answers”?  Sounds like lecturers who come to class, don’t do anything remotely relevant to the actual course they’re lecturing for, and then when students complain they say that they’re not into spoonfeeding.

Calling evil robots names of angels from in the Bible, including the scene of a 14 year old masterbating over an unconscious girl and having vague endings isn’t “classic” to me. The Human Instrumentality Project is a bunch of artsy-fartsy bullshit that makes no sense to anyone not fond of thinking in the extreme abstract. Anno urges us to find our own answers because he himself has no answers for the very thing he created. Viewers on the other hand see NGE, not understand half of it, and thus equate this misunderstanding and vagueness to a great work of art. I appreciate the fact that the characters were complex, but who really cares? Is this a soap opera? Is it really a selling point to say that they’ve taken an extraordinary amount of screen time delving deep into the psyche of….animated characters? The protaganist, Shinji Ikari, is as annoying as they come. In the final episode/movie, he behaves like such an absolute pussy that it was painful to continue watching.

Its stated on Wikipedia that

“Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series, had suffered from clinical depression prior to creating the series, and the psychological aspects of the show are based on the director’s own experiences with overcoming this illness.

Um, I guess that meant he just injected his own crazy talk he used to mumble to himself when he was depressed or high into the dialogue after they ran out of money towards the end of the series (“There were serious budget and schedule restraints in the later episodes of the series”) and needed something to “to help distinguish”  EVA from…well other anime that make sense. Interestingly, the themes of the last several episodes reflect the preceding sentence.

All in all, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a bunch of bullshit, on a level as verbose as its title, designed to wow us into thinking it should be placed on a high pedestal over other anime as one of outstanding artistic integrity, when in fact its just an average mecha anime, thinly veiled with nonsensical messages pulled out of Psychology textbooks and Religious texts, injected with the “personal experiences” of its director, at an attempt of making it much more that it actually is.

Caribbean Cinemas 8 Movie Tickets Increase

March 17, 2008 at 8:19 pm (Entertainment, Life, Movies, Rants, Trinidad) (, , , )

Sign outside CC8, Trincity Mall

Yes. Believe it or not, even the price to see a movie has increased. But why? I know the price of flour, sugar, milk, etc has increased, but what the fuck does that have to do with movies? And furthermore, do they even need extra income, given the sheer amount of ads they have before each movie. Last movie I saw, “27 Dresses”, had 30 minutes of ads before it began :

BaileysAd.jpgBailey’s Ad

FrutaAd_orSomeShit.jpgEither Fruta or Dairy Dairy Milk Ad

PepsiAd.jpgPepsi Ad

PepsiAd.jpg Pepsi Ad again, this is no mistake, they always show the same Pepsi ad 3-4 times in succession for some weird reason

image466.jpgDairy Dairy Ad

So is it just me, or is anyone getting the feeling that the business community is arbitrarily hiking up prices for absolutely no reason? The sad thing is, it has yet to backfire because the lines are still long..
